Toni Braxton is being sued by an advertising company for not making payments on posters produced for her cable-TV reality show “Braxton Family Values.”
Advertising company National Promotions & Advertising (NPA) claims that the R&B singer owes more than $57,000. The advertising company is also suing the producers of the show, which airs on WEtv, The Urban Daily reports.
Tony Braxton’s rep, however, says the singer doesn’t owe the company a dime.
The Toni Braxton lawsuit appears to be a fairly typical breach of contract claim. Generally, when two parties enter into a contract, they are obligated to fulfill certain obligations. When a party fails to fulfill his or her end of the bargain, the other party can sue for breach of contract.
In Braxton’s case, NPA says that it bargained to provide the promotional posters for “Braxton Family Values.” In exchange, NPA claims that Braxton agreed to pay $57,000. However, the singer may have a valid defense to the contract claim, if she was never a party to the agreement in the first place.
Braxton did not dispute that there was a contract for advertising or that NPA was owed money. However, Toni Braxton’s lawsuit defense appears to be that just because her name appears in “Braxton Family Values,” this does not mean she should be legally responsible for everything arising from the show.
