How’s this for a weird, tragic case? Arthur Sedille admitted that he put a gun to his wife’s head and shot and killed her during sex.
According to police Sedille, 23, said that he would frequently put a gun to the head of his wife, Rebecca Sedille, 50, during sex. It was part of a fantasy sex game they liked playing at their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Usually the gun wasn’t loaded. This time it was.
First degree murder is defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, meaning that it was committed after planning or “lying in wait” for the victim. Based on the preliminary facts of the case, it doesn’t sound like a first-degree murder. By contrast, if Arthur Sedille is telling the truth, the case sounds more like voluntary manslaughter at best. Voluntary manslaughter is an unintentional killing that results from recklessness or criminal negligence. The usual distinction from voluntary manslaughter is that involuntary manslaughter is a crime in which the victim’s death is unintended.
However, the police and prosecutors do not have to accept Sedille’s version of the facts. While it sounds more like something from a legal thriller novel, there is always the possibility that the fantasy sex game defense is actually just a concocted alibi.
