Actress Charlize Theron has adopted a baby boy and will raise the child as a single parent, according to news reports. The Oscar-winning actress’ spokesperson announced the adoption Wednesday. “Charlize Theron has adopted a child. She is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson,” the statement said, according to The Huffington Post. No further details were released. Theron publicly expressed her desire to have a child without having to tie the knot in a 2008 interview, the Post reports....

Ending a 24-hour manhunt, police have shot and killed Cupertino shooter Shareef Allman Thursday. Allman is accused of attacking coworkers at the Lehigh Hanson Permanente Cement Plant early Wednesday morning. He reportedly interrupted a weekly meeting with a handgun and AK-47 assault rifle. He killed three and left seven wounded. He then fled the scene, forcing nearby schools and neighborhoods into lockdown. Police finally located the Cupertino shooter at a home in nearby Sunnyvale, according to the San Jose Mercury News....

Disney starlet Demi Lovato’s rehab stint was the “darkest time” of her young life, the 18-year-old said in a video to her fans over the weekend. Demi Lovato’s rehab treatment, a two-month treatment which ended in late January, was for “emotional and physical issues,” including eating disorders and self mutilation, Fox News reports. “I wanted to send you guys a message because I know that you’ve seen me out and about and I wanted to let you know that I am back and am home,” Lovato began in the short video, which was recorded in her house, the New York Daily News reports....

Actor Dennis Quaid is not giving up his legal fight against Baxter Healthcare Corp over an accidental overdose of the blood-thinner Heparin that nearly claimed the lives of his newborn twins. He has filed a second negligence lawsuit. Dennis Quaid is suing the pharmaceutical company for unspecified damages and alleges that packaging caused the drug mix up and the overdose, Reuters reports. The lawsuit claims that heparin and a lower-dose version called Hep-Lock, have similar packaging in blue vials with small print on the labels....

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that a professional mailer on Cymbalta from manufacturer Eli Lilly and Co. is “false and misleading” in that it “overstates the efficacy of Cymbalta and omits some of the most serious and important risk information associated with its use” in violation of federal law. FDA has ordered Lilly to cease dissemination of these promotional materials. Cymbalta has been approved for treatment of major depressive disorder, management of pain associated with diabetes, and treatment of generalized anxiety disorder....

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the USDA recently announced a recall of approximately 140,000 pounds of fully cooked assorted meat products. Westlake Food Corporation, a Santa Ana, Calif., company, is recalling approximately 140,000 pounds of fully cooked assorted meat products because they contain an undeclared allergen, wheat starch. Wheat is a known allergen and it is not declared on the products’ label. The FSIS has listed the following products as under recall:...

Halle Berry will reportedly seek a restraining order against her ex, Gabriel Aubry, following a Thanksgiving throwdown between Aubry and Berry’s current fiance, actor Olivier Martinez. Aubry, a male model, famously fathered a child with Berry four years ago. The two hit a rough patch and were all over the tabloids as they split and fought over custody of their child. Most recently, Berry was blocked from moving her child to France....

Jodi Arias’ defense attorney, Kirk Nurmi, made his closing arguments in her murder trial on Friday, telling jurors that even if they don’t like Arias, “that shouldn’t matter,” reports the Associated Press. “Nine days out of 10, I don’t like Jodi Arias,” Nurmi said – though, upon objection, the judge told jurors to disregard that statement. That may seem surprising, but Nurmi is not the first attorney to resort to unusual persuasive tactics in an attempt to sway the jury, some which are not allowed by the court....

Lawn mower DWI charges have been filed against Lexington, North Carolina’s Perry Weaver, a man who managed to get himself hit by two cars late Monday evening while driving his mower on the side of a roadway. Luckily, all parties appear to be in good health after the incident, with Weaver walking away with only a few bumps and scrapes. His mower, however, likely did not fare as well. At this point, State Troopers have no clue as to whether Perry Weaver was mowing or driving while on the side of the road, though they do know that, at some point, he managed to weave onto the roadway....

A Portland, Oregon man was charged by Denver prosecutors with one count of sexual assault this week after he allegedly raped a woman in an empty concourse at the Denver International Airport. The Man, Noel Bertrand, was caught in the act by two airport employees, but the victim claims that at least three other employees witnessed the alleged rape and did nothing. The victim, who had missed her flight, had decided to spend the night at the Denver airport....

Going through airplane security sometimes feels like sexual assault but one unfortunate woman was actually assaulted on her flight. Upon arrival in Newark airport on Tuesday, Bawer Aksal was arrested for sexually assaulting the woman sitting next to him while she slept. She awoke to find his hands in her shorts and her blouse, according to the complaint. She demanded he remove his hands and reported the incident to flight attendants....

A Florida mother and son’s out-of-the-box thinking has landed them in jail for allegedly stealing more than $2 million in toys from stores in 27 states. Investigators say Margaret Pollara, 70, was the lookout while her son Michael Ignatius Pollara, 46, pulled a fast one on retailers: He allegedly emptied oversized toy boxes and stuffed high-priced items inside, then resold his stolen booty online, Miami’s WTVJ reports. “It was one of his goals to visit all 50 states and commit thefts in all 50 states, which he was very proud of – he did succeed,” a sheriff’s sergeant told WTVJ....

Nissan issued a voluntary recall last week over concerns that 80,000 of its vehicles may leak fuel. Shortly after, the automaker issued a second recall covering an additional 3,000 vehicles that do not meet federal auto safety rules. The first Nissan recall involves the 2011-12 Infiniti Q56X, Infiniti M sedan and Juke. After conducting an investigation into a consumer complaint, the company believes that the fuel pressure sensor on these vehicles may not have been properly tightened....

Menu Foods, Inc., a private-label pet food manufacturer based in Canada, is recalling all its “cuts and gravy” style dog and cat food produced at its facility in Emporia, Kansas between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The products are sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico. There has been a small number of reported instances of cats and dogs in the United States that developed kidney failure after eating the affected product, the FDA has stated....

In a case of saying much without saying a lot, the Supreme Court again compromised on President Donald Trump’s travel ban. This time, a one-paragraph order left in place a Hawaii judge’s ruling permitting entry of “grandparents, grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins of persons in the United States.” At the same time, the Court granted the administration’s request to stay part of the decision that would have made it easier for more refugees to enter the country....

Jennifer Lopez says she left American Idol voluntarily, but it may be that the singer/actress was fired after asking for another raise. In what would have been her third season on the popular Fox show, Jennifer Lopez reportedly asked for a $2-million-dollar raise. This comes just a year after she got a $3 million raise boosting her salary from $12 million her first year to $15 million in her second (and last) year, reports Reuters....
