A teenager and his adult mentor have been arrested in connection with Ohio’s Craigslist killings, as investigators identified another alleged victim last week. Brogan Rafferty, 16, is charged with attempted murder and complicity to attempted murder. His mentor, Richard Beasley, 52, is also being held. Investigators believe Beasley and Rafferty posted fake job ads on the website Craigslist to lure victims to rural Ohio. The pair then shot and killed their victims, apparently with the intent to rob them, the Associated Press reports....

Beef Packers, Inc., of Fresno, California has recalled over 800,000 pounds of ground beef products that may be linked to an outbreak of drug resistant salmonella. The beef was repackaged and sold under different brand names at Sam’s Club, Safeway and Vons in at least 9 states. The ground beef in question was produced between June 5 and June 23, 2009. It was delivered to distribution centers in California, Arizona, Colorado and Utah....

Two Virginia parents are facing felony child abuse charges after using drywall to seal their three young daughters in a room covered with feces and urine. Police say the pair placed their three naked daughters into a room in their two-story home. Then, they allegedly nailed a five foot high piece of drywall into the doorway of the room, ABC reports. The couple’s 4-year-old child escaped and ran naked to a neighbor’s house for help....

According to TMZ, Pauly D’s daughter is the result of his relationship with a woman identified as “Amanda.” Both parents have reportedly filed court documents over custody of the baby. Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested in Georgia on Tuesday after a traffic stop turned into a drug, cash, and gun bust. An officer stopped Soulja Boy’s rented Cadillac Escalade early in the morning. Inside his vehicle, officers found a “substantial amount” of marijuana, guns and some cash. Authorities did not indicate the exact amount of drugs found in the car, or if the guns had the proper paperwork. Why were officers able to search through Soulja Boy’s car?...

On Friday, a Southwest Airlines plane heading towards Sacramento made an emergency landing after a 5 foot by 1 foot tear occurred in the fuselage, forcing passengers to rely on oxygen masks. By mid-day Monday, Southwest had cancelled nearly 70 flights, taking the time to inspect all of its 737s for similar cracks. Cracks occur on airplane siding all the time, and due to regular inspections, are constantly repaired, reports The Wall Street Journal....

Every day the Food and Drug Administration recalls foods that need “corrective action.” Not all recalls are based on food poisoning or the result of an actual injury. Sometimes there is a problem with the label that needs correcting or there is another packaging problem. But sometimes food is recalled because the food itself is defective, poisonous, or otherwise dangerous to consumers. The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear the appeal of Khalid El-Masri, a German citizen who claims that he was tortured in a prison in Afghanistan after being kidnapped by the CIA. The Court’s decision means that a March decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit will stand. In that case, in response to El-Masri’s claim that he was detained and interrogated in violation of his rights under the Constitution and international law, the Fourth Circuit sided with the government and its argument that El-Masri’s case could not proceed because it posed an unreasonable risk that privileged state secrets would be disclosed....

The police have a duty to investigate crime. However, individual are not legally required to participate in police questioning. A person can simply say “no”, though police may be able to continue questioning until an affirmative request for a lawyer is made. A person not only has the right to remain silent, but can also request the presence of their lawyer during any questioning, even if they are not under arrest or a suspect....

According the DOJ, six whistleblowers (‘relators’ in legalese) who filed qui tam lawsuits under the False Claims Act will collectively receive more than $102 million for their roles in uncovering fraud and “off-label” use of Pfizer drugs that were not approved by the FDA....

YouTube star Michelle Phan’s make-up tutorial channel has more than 6.6 million subscribers and has landed her endorsement deals with big brands like Lancome and legions of dedicated fans. But it seems record company Ultra Records is not a big fan. The record company – home to some of the biggest names in electronic music like Deadmau5 and Calvin Harris – has filed a lawsuit against the make-up artist claiming that the background music on some of her most popular videos was used without permission, reports TMZ....

A new report from a national highway safety group examines the impact of state driver’s licensing age laws on teen motor vehicle crashes, and calls on states to consider raising driver’s licensing ages in order to reduce traffic accidents and save lives. Licensing Age and Teenage Driver Crashes: A Review of the Evidence, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), focuses on “the costs in terms of lives of allowing licensure sooner rather than later,” and finds that “licensing at later ages would substantially reduce crashes involving teen drivers,” according to an IIHS News Release....

A fake Twitter account can potentially lead to real criminal consequences, beginning with your arrest. Just ask Jacob L. Elliott, 36, who was arrested after police served a search warrant on a home where they believed someone was operating a Twitter account posing as the mayor of Peoria, Illinois, the Peoria Journal Star reports. Technically, Elliott was booked on drug charges and not in connection with the @peoriamayor account. Still, how can a fake Twitter account get you arrested?...

If the term “swatting” has not entered your vernacular, it’s when someone prank-calls the police and tells them that some horrific crime is happening at someone’s home. Just a few days before the one year anniversary of his death, Eric Garner’s family reached a settlement in its wrongful-death claim against New York City. Last year, on July 17, 2014, police attempted to arrest Eric Garner for selling untaxed cigarettes. According to the police, Garner resisted arrest, so one officer used a chokehold, which is prohibited by the Police Department’s policies. By the end of the short struggle, Garners’ cries of “I can’t breathe” subsided, and he died....
