A court hearing about the use of Florida’s Stand Your Ground law in a double-murder case ended in a brawl outside a courtroom that was caught on camera. Deputies arrested the defendant’s stepfather, the dead victims’ father, and one of the victims’ friends after the fight at the Osceola County Courthouse on Monday, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Several people were hurt. The fight began after a judge postponed the Stand Your Ground hearing in the case of Jayson Clair, 27, who’s charged with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of two brothers, Joel and James Kun, in 2011....

Medical marijuana use and sales won’t be prosecuted by the federal government, according to a new Justice Department memo from Deputy U.S. Attorney General David Ogden (inset, right). But there’s a catch: the federal directive only applies in states that have laws authorizing medical marijuana usage. The DOJ also made clear that this new policy cannot be used as a ‘get out of jail free card’ by drug traffickers or those who grow pot on federal land....

Spurred on by embarrassment, a 13-year-old Florida middle school student has been arrested after word got out that he was involved in an incident that had transformed his lucid teacher into a nauseated, drowsy, drugged teacher. That’s right–with the help of prescription sleep aids, the teen managed to knock teacher Danielle Jones off her feet. And now he’s facing felony charges. The unnamed teen, a student at Discovery Intermediate in Osceola County, was upset after Danielle Jones scolded him for his disruptive behavior, reports the Orlando Sentinel....

A grand jury decided not to bring charges against the Texas dad who killed a man molesting his daughter. The man, whose name has not been released in order to protect his daughter’s identity, allegedly found Jesus Mora Flores sexually assaulting his daughter at the family’s ranch. He attacked Flores in an effort to protect his daughter and then called 911. The family ranch is in a remote area and Flores died before an ambulance reached the property....

As if red light cameras on intersections weren’t controversial enough (they’re not valid; yes they are; no they’re not), at least one Pennsylvania town is planning on using traffic cameras for crime control. Hazleton, PA will soon link all of its traffic cameras along a central street to city hall, giving police on-demand access to the video. While residents may think the use of cameras to fight crime is necessary, is it legal?...

When you’re the victim of a fake or malicious 911 call, you may be wondering what steps you can take to protect yourself – and perhaps even get back at the person who made the call. George Zimmerman may be wondering about this himself, after his estranged wife Shellie called 911 during a domestic dispute and claimed her husband was waving a gun around. As police did not find a gun when they detained him, some are speculating that the 911 call was meant to make George look bad in the public eye....

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ soon-to-be divorced couple Russell and Taylor Armstrong are being sued for $1.5 million for allegedly misleading investors. Russell, a venture capitalist, held a stake in a medical records company called MyMedicalRecords.com (or MMR). He allegedly misled investors by selling them shares of another company, NuWay Digital Systems (NDS) and telling them that they would get a share of MMR - but instead kept the money for himself and his wife....

Alexis Wright’s client list from her Zumba studio turned brothel has been published and includes several prominent Maine citizens. Suffice to say, a lot of men in Kennebunk are feeling uneasy today. As part of the investigation and trial against Alexis Wright, police released a list of her alleged prostitution clients on Tuesday. The full list purportedly contains 150 names but only 21 were released since those are the people involved in the court case....

The California Supreme Court has ruled that police can conduct a cell phone search on a suspect’s cellphone without a warrant. The Court held that police in the Golden State have the authority to look at text messages on a cell phone that is found on the person of a criminal suspect. The case dealt with whether police needed a warrant to conduct a cell phone search of suspect Gregory Diaz....

A Detroit gas station cashier is behind bars after he allegedly shot a customer in a dispute over a box of condoms. The customer – Michael Haynes II, 24 – died at a hospital, The Huffington Post reports. Haynes bought a box of condoms about 12:45 a.m. Saturday at a BP station on Detroit’s west side, the Detroit Free Press reports. When Haynes complained about the high price of the condoms and asked for a refund, the cashier refused....

The makers of a drinkable sunscreen, Osmosis Harmonized H2O, are being sued by the Iowa Attorney General due to claims of fraud and deceiving consumers. The makers claims that by drinking five pumps of this water, that has been exposed to “proprietary frequencies in the form of scalar waves” from their harmonizer machine, a person can be protected at the same level of a SPF 30 sunscreen for 3 hours. The Iowa AG has called these shaky claims into question, and despite the less than 3....

An Australian music festival promoter has taken to the wall – Flo Rida’s Facebook wall, that is. The hip hop artist was apparently scheduled to perform at the Fat as Butter festival in October. But instead of showing up, he took the $55,000 fee and ran. As expected, promoter Brent Lean filed a lawsuit. But when he was unable to physically locate the star, an Australian judge gave him permission to serve Flo Rida on his Facebook wall....

The U.S. military released more details about the Fort Hood shooting trial this week, announcing that Maj. Nidal Hasan, accused of killing 13 and wounding dozens, will be tried in a military court starting March 5, 2012. If convicted of murder, Hasan will either be executed or automatically sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. The U.S. military has not executed an American soldier in nearly 50 years. Though he has yet to enter a plea, the Associated Press reports that Nidal Hasan has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder....

Much to Google’s dismay, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals declined to dismiss a Google Street View lawsuit accusing the tech giant of violating federal wiretap law when it accidentally collected personal information while obtaining photographs for Street View. Essentially, Google inadvertently eavesdropped on open Wi-Fi networks from its Street View mapping cars (yeah, those funny cars with dunce caps you’ve seen whiz by). The cars’ Wi-Fi-sniffing hardware, used to improve location-specific services, unintentionally intercepted people’s emails, user names, passwords, and other data, reports Reuters....

Rapper Gucci Mane is wanted by Atlanta police for the alleged assault of a soldier at a night club. Police say Gucci Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, smashed a champagne bottle over the unidentified soldier’s head after the soldier asked for a picture at a club called Harlem Nights, reports ABC News. The soldier said he was in the club’s VIP area when he tried to strike up a conversation with Gucci Mane....

Oscar winner Halle Berry’s ex may soon be under criminal investigation. The couple’s nanny Alliance Kambem has reportedly filed a police report accusing Gabriel Aubry of child endangerment and misdemeanor battery. Last week Kambem went to pick up Berry and Aubry’s three-year-old daughter Nahla at Aubry’s Los Angeles apartment. When she arrived, she questioned Aubry about how there wasn’t much communication regarding Nahla’s care. That’s when Aubry reportedly became angry....

Consumers should be on the lookout for phony e-mails and faxes in which scammers use the name of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to gain access to taxpayers’ computers and personal information, the agency announced on Thursday. Most of the scams involve promises of bogus tax refunds and economic stimulus payments, and instruct consumers to click on a link to access a claim form – or to provide detailed personal information – allowing scammers to commit identity theft....
