A middle school student and his 15-year-old brother were arrested after a video of them bullying a special-education student was posted online. Now police are looking for the people who filmed the incident. The video shows the boys beating up 13-year-old Gregory Sams after accusing him of “talking bad” about the bullies. In the video, the older boy is seen flashing a gang sign at the camera. This incident has led to some serious legal troubles for the two boys....

The issue of when police are allowed to use Tasers came up again recently as an Oklahoma police officer was suspended after he was caught on camera tasing a handcuffed woman. In the video, the police officer is seen talking to a woman in custody when the woman appears to spit on the officer. The officer then took out his Taser and shocked the woman, leaving the probes in the woman for over a minute, reports ABC....

The Zappos class action alleges the website does not have adequate procedures to protect user information as required under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The company is also accused of being negligent and breaching user privacy. It’s unclear what effect the hack will have on Zappos customers, as PC World reports no credit card information was obtained. Users were only asked to change their passwords, including those used across the web....

The American Lung Association has released its 2008 “State of the Air” report, a city-by-city report card on air quality and pollution across the U.S. The ALA’s 2008 “State of the Air” report ranks cities according to prevalence of three types of air pollution: short-term particles, year-round particles, and ozone. For the first time, a city outside of California has topped one of the three ranking lists. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ranked worst in terms of short-term particle pollution, which an ALA Press Release describes as “a deadly cocktail of ash, soot, diesel exhaust, chemicals, metals and aerosols that can spike dangerously for hours to weeks on end....

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has set a deadline of January 17, 2015, for consumers who wish to file a refund claim for their purchase of Buckyballs or Buckycubes magnets. The refunds were made available as part of a settlement agreement between the CPSC and Craig Zucker, the founder of Maxfield & Oberton, the company that produced the Buckyballs desk magnets. The CPSC sued Zucker individually after Maxfield & Oberton was dissolved, at least partly because of an increasing number of consumer safety complaints....

Pilgrim’s Pride expanded its chicken recall to 18,312 pounds of chicken nuggets and fillets sold at Dollar General stores in the Southeast this week, while Flying Foods has also recalled another 7,000 pounds of chicken and other meat products, most of which were sold at Starbucks and Race Trac gas stations. The poultry products are believed to be contaminated with Listeria, a bacteria that can be deadly for pregnant women, older adults, newborns, and those with weakened immune systems....

The Consumer Protection and Safety Commission announced today that in conjunction with Graco Children’s Products Inc., of Atlanta, Ga., they are recalling about 1.2 million Graco Harmony™ High Chairs. The highchairs are being recalled due to two problems, the screws in the front legs of the chairs can come loose, or the plastic brackets on the back legs can crack, both causing the chair to unexpectedly tip over. Graco has received 464 reports of screws loosening/falling out and/or plastic brackets cracking....

Dennis Quaid probably thought he was doing a nice thing by letting a horseback rider use his trails to ride to a nearby park but the ride has resulted in a lawsuit against Quaid. Lester Wood got permission from Quaid to ride on his trails so he took his horse on a ride toward a park in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. But he never got there. The horse got spooked when Quaid’s sprinklers went off near the trail and Wood was thrown from the saddle....

There is an FDA warning about the possible side effects of heart attacks and strokes for patients taking the Meridia diet drug. ABC news reports that the FDA added new warnings to let patients with heart problems know that they are at an increased risk of heart attack and stroke if they use Meridia. The additional warnings on the Meridia diet drug comes on the heels of the European Medicines Agency announcing that they will recommend that healthcare providers stop using the diet drug which is issued by Abbott Laboratories....

A Georgia father who left his toddler in a hot car, leading to the boy’s death, was indicted Thursday on eight counts, including malice murder and felony murder. Justin Ross Harris, 33, had initially pleaded not guilty to murder and child cruelty charges in mid-June, but CNN reports that this new grand jury indictment supersedes the previous charges. Prosecutors have alleged that Harris intentionally strapped his child into his overheated SUV to die, claiming that he “wanted a childless life....

Former Girl Scouts money manager Yaasmin Hooey, 35, was caught doing something decidedly against the organization’s credo. Hooey is accused of pilfering $310,000 from the non-profit. Hooey served as the organization’s director of finance in New York. Authorities say she started stealing money in 2008. She wrote 65 checks using the director’s forged signature. She also sent 9 wire transfers to her own checking account. What did Hooey buy? Railroad tickets, groceries, and other items including a $13,000 diamond ring and a luxury cruise....

Following his arrest on federal criminal charges by the U.S. Attorney last week in New Jersey’s epic corruption scandal, Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, III – a former election and politics lawyer in private practice – resigned from office today. His official web page and bio are gone, replaced by a notice that Dawn Zimmer, Hoboken City Council President and former mayoral candidate, is now Acting Mayor.
