Many of us feel that the worst crime a person can commit is sexual abuse of a child.
But even that can be made much worse.
In a shocking story out of Mars Hill, Maine, a woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison for making–and sharing–pornographic videos of herself performing sex acts on her two year old daughter.
In 2009, a man named Nicholas Wilde was arrested in the U.K. for possession of child pornography. Investigators found videos that it tied to one Julie Carr in Mars Hill, reports the Bangor Daily News. Officials turned the evidence over to local authorities.
Julie Carr was then arrested for the production of child pornography and a variety of sexual abuse offenses.
Next week, Carr is to be sentenced for the sexual crimes, reports the Associated Press. Those sentences are to be served concurrently.
Concurrent sentences, as opposed to consecutive, are to be served at the same time. In other words, if the state only punishes Carr with 10 years, she will only serve 20. However, if they sentence her to 30, she will serve a maximum of 30.
Though Julie Carr and Nicholas Wilde deserve significantly more time (he is serving almost 9 years according to the Bangor Daily News), you can take some comfort in the fact that they will never be permitted around children again.
