The problem is that Beckham says that racy allegations are untrue and the soccer star is now suing US Magazine over the prostitute story. The article essentially claimed that Beckham had a threesome with some high-paid escorts in 2007. The article also quotes a 26 year-old prostitute claiming to have slept with Beckham on multiple occasions.
David Beckham has been married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham for eleven years, and the couple has three children together. In fighting the allegations against him, Beckham’s legal team is likely seeking a high-figure sum in damages stemming from the publication.
Defamation, libel, and slander are all legal terms (and popular causes of action) for publicized false information. David Beckham is joining a long list of celebrities, such as Brangelina, Kate Hudson, and Reese Witherspoon that sued a magazine for falsely broadcasting their personal information. The suits typically involve claims of invasion of privacy and presenting the individual in a false light, and they are almost always settled before going to court. Although public figures have a higher burden of proof when brining a defamation suit, they also have the money and resources to meet the legal challenge.
